Week 2 Lab 2 (Cardboard box modelling)

First, By drawing a polygons and this polygon is a cube. Then we set the width, height and depth as follows in the lab sheet
Next, turn off the grid and turn on Smooth shade all and Wireframe from shaded

Then tap onto spacebar to switch to the 4 panel display>chose the top panel

This is the view of the top panel.

Hold on to your mouse, right click and chose vertex. This is what you get eventually. After that region select the vertices in the center of the box depth (length)-wise. Set the absolute values display to relative transform with the drop-down menu follow by scaling the vertices by entering 2.9 in the X axis window.

Next we press R for the scale tool or we can chose it in the toolbox.

Region-select the vertices in the center of the box width-wise and by entering
2.92 in the Z axis window to scale the vertices.

This is what you get, then you must hold down to the right mouse click and chose face. After that you press space bar to get back to perspective view.

In the Hotbox, choose Edit Mesh > Extrude.
Extrude Face Options dialog choose Edit >Reset Settings.
Choose Apply, Close.
The extrude manipulator displays on the selected face.

As you can see the brown surface is being selected. Then we need to

move the manipulator down a short distance on the Z axis.

This is another view

After moving towards the Z axis we will get the following image. Not yet done we have to set the local translate Z to -29.5

Follow by selecting the faces in the center of each top section, depth and width-wise.We select one, then use shift+select to add
the remaining ones to the selection. Do not select the small faces at each top corner.
Press g to repeat the extrude command.
Move the manipulator up a short distance on the Z
axis.
Press q to complete the command.

This is what we get after doing the above steps.

Then we must select the center faces on top of each flaps
Next we need to use the scale tool to scale the distance away of the side flap and the end flaps

This is the front view,in vertex. We have to select the points needed(Press shift+click)

After that in this panel we need to first select the vertices>rotate tool>press insert key. Therefore,
This changes the manipulator to pivot point mode. Then we need to use the manipulator to pivot the points.

The zoom in view.
After doing that.We need to press the insert key again to return the manipulator into the normal mode.

Then we need to rotate the flap.It look like this.

The rest of the flaps

This is how it looks like when the flaps are being edited and rotated

Follow by, we need to hold the right click mouse and chose edge>hotbox>edit mesh>insert the edge loop tool. Click on each section. This will help us create/split 3 sections/parts.

Next we need to smoothen the edges.

Hotbox, choose Select > Select Edge Ring Tool as this is to speed up the selection of the edges along the side.

This are the edges that i have selected as follow in the lab sheet.

This is how it looks like when the edges is being selected and we chose>edit mesh and bevel.

In order to make this shape. We first need to chose vertex, then we need to select the vertices at the inner edge loop on the top of the side flap.

This is how it looks like. Although it is not very well done.

Making the box look old.

We nned to chose animation>chose create deformers>nonlinear>wave

and also some changes must be made in the amplitude and wavelength.

In order to make the effect remain the same, the deformers must be link to the box.

So,on the menu bar,choose windows>outliner

The outliner can be seen in the screen shot.It is a display of all the objects in the scene.

Finally we chose wave handle
>hold down to the mouse>and drag to box_open as name previously. Then click on the(+)to expand.

Repeat the steps for wave handle 2(:

Our cardboard model is done. But it don't seen to be very well done.

1 comment:

  1. For the box to look better, you should rotate down the flaps further.
