Week11 Lab 2 Squashing and Stretching Ex 2 (Tennis and Beach Ball)

(The steps is the same as the Squashing and Stretching Exercise 1) I use the maya file and create a new tennis ball and a beach ball. I also adjust and pay attention to the squash and stretch, timing of the ball. This is because tennis ball with lesser squash and stretch will bounce faster, thus the timing will be faster.
While, the beach ball, it has more stretch and squash. Therefor the timing of the beach ball will be slower compared to the tennis ball.

1) Why is squash and stretch so useful animation? in the

Squash and Stretch is so useful in the animation is because, it can create a better effect. This techniques allows the action to flow more smoothly and sometimes exaggerate for a cartoon effect. It gives a more realistic movement and feel to create a better animation rather than a boring one. It is also an important principle in animation. If there is no stretch and squash, the animation can be really died and not interesting. The purpose of it is to make it more flexible and a sense of weight. However the volume of the object is also very important. The volume does not change when the object is being stretch or squash. It will work correspondingly according to the width and height!(:

2) Think of a situation in which extreme squash and stretch could be applied to a character- try to be original.

If extreme squash and stretch is use on a character. A situation where a person was in a plane, getting ready to jump off with it's parachute. So when he is ready, he took a first leap down from the plane to ground for landing. While it was almost time for him to pull the parachute, the component get stuck. Eventually, the parachute open up when he is almost going to land(Parachute Stretch), it was too late. he fall onto the land, Extreme squash to the ground. :)

3)Think of an animation example where squash and stretch would NOT be appropriate.

An egg, Egg can be eaten and the egg shell is thin and fragile. When it was not place properly on the table, it will roll down, eventually, the egg falls and hit the ground. It will not stretch or squash instead the egg will crack! (: This can be squash. As in the squash into bits and pieces.

4)If squash and stretch doesn't really happen so obviously in real life, why do you think is it so effective in animation?

illusion? It is to create illusion?. Personally, i feel that squash and stretch is effective in animation because, it will create a more realistic sense of feel. It would allow the animation become more real, interesting rather than a static ball bouncing without the squash and stretch. It can be very boring. It also allow the animation to have a good and better effect. Talking about illusion, it gives people a sense that something is real. This will add a exciting atmosphere to the animation played
