Reflection for Week1 (Lab1)

Reflection
For Exercise 1 and 2

I have a fun time drawing and sketching out the primitive shape. Through this exercise , I understand that 3D can be broken down into simple shapes.I also understand that part of thinking in 3D is by breaking down into simpler steps, simpler shapes and small components.I also gain knowledge where things around us are actually in the form of 3D.Actually, each of the objects are made up of shapes like cylinder, cone and pyramid. I think that this exercise let us have a basic idea on what is 3D and how a 3D can be actually broken down into simple primitive shape. This primitive shapes would allow us to have a better concept on how we look at 3D models with the collection of different primitive shapes.

Exercise 3

I think that this exercise promote thinking.By comparing prison and toontown, it gives us an overview why some structure of the buildings are being build that way. I also learn that actually angle of the building would gives us a sense of feeling. For example. The buildings of the prisons have sharp angles and buildings are design straight/straight lines, toontown structures are mostly curve/curve lines. In psychology view sharp angles/sharp edges look more unfriendly and fierce .However curve angles look more inviting and lively.I understand that lines and angles reflect different meaning on the structure.I learn a new meaning what sense of scale is. It is a various comparison of various distances. The sense of scale might reflect different purpose of the buildings.(eg. The sense of scale of the prison is long and big but inside, the cell is small.) The purpose of this is to take advantage of the space within the structure.)I have also gain more knowledge on 3D design and models.
Also being able to compare the different images and come out with a conclusion.

Primitive Breakdown-Week1(Lab1) Exercise 3-The Prison vs disneyland analysis

Teacher, I create 2 tables for the comparison. I don't know why i can't bring up the table. You have to scroll all the way down. In order to see the table. Sorry for the inconvience.

Prisons are meant to be scary, powerful looking places, while Toontown is meant for fun and childlike enjoyment

How is this reflected in the lines and angles of the buildings?

How does the sense of scale reflect the different purposes of the prisons and Toontown?

How is this reflected in the lines and angles of the
buildings?

Prisons

Toontowns

The design of the
prisons is simple
and ordinary.

The design of the
toontown is
more complicated.

The lines in the
designing of the prisons are more straight and static. The lines are neat and
well arranged. Gives a dull and boring look.

The lines are
vertically straight but the mostly curves and not. Gives a livelier look.

The prisons have tall
and sharp pillars. It restrict the movement of prisoners.

The toontown have
short, big and round pillars to support the buildings. It gives us a sense of
more comfort and we feel inviting. Kids might like it.

The Angles are mostly
sharp. In psychological view, sharp angles might look unfriendly and fierce.

The angles are mostly
curves. It does not have sharp angles like the prisons. Curves angle might
look more inviting.

The patterns on the
buildings are repeated.
(like the windows)(eg. prison 02)

Tall Metal poles and
fences are also repeated

However, The pattern
design on the structure is not repeated. It can be seen that each section of
the structure have different design. (words, cartoon on the buildings like a
castle with flags).

How does the Sense of Scale reflect the different purposes of
the prisons and toontown?

Prisons

Toontowns

The scale is long and
big. The distance seems to look long.

The scale is small. The
distance between each is closely packed together.

This is because the
designer would want to take advantage of the space to house more prisoners.
Although the scales can be big but the size of every cells in the buildings
seems to be the same and it is small.

This is because
toontown wants to present all of its facilities and entertainment to the
public at one go.

What is 3D?

The word 3D means 3 Dimensional. It is an object or something that has its Width,Height and Depth. This is just like the plotting of graph during our mathematics lesson.
A graph has a X-axis,Y-axis. But now we have a Z axis. This Z-axis is pointing out of the plane towards us. That is why we see 3D object appearing real.

The world we live in is 3D(3-Dimensional)

The world we live in is 3-Dimensional. In our life,We move around in 3D everday,in all intents and purposes.

Video on what is dimensions?

This video shows you or give you some simple examples of what is Dimension? (1D,2D and 3D)
